INDIA's GSLV-D2 Launch Successful

India's second developmental test flight of the Geo synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-D2), was successfully carried out on May 8, 2003 4:58pm IST, from Satish Dhawan Space Centre - SHAR, Sriharikota. This marks a major milestone in the Indian space programme. It really is a wonderful news that our scientists are striving to be the best in Space technology. Although the D2 also ran with Russian supplied Cryo(genic) motors, this successful flight would certainly have boosted the morale of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). I can see our space programme going commercial in the next 4-5 years. Imagine the amount of revenue our workhorse rockets will be bringing in. It is estimated that if India commercializes its space launching systems, the cost of putting a satellite would be a lot less than (atleast 40% cheaper. BIG money when you talk of millions of $$$) the cheapest alternative now (probably the Russian Space Programme, I dont know however). Rock On....scientists. Full credit goes to you. This is only been lately..

actually I went kandangath's web site...and I was looking at these....other blogs...

I found a very interesting fact...

team which is in srishti...out of them almost all of them with the obvious omission of a few most people have their own website..or blogs..
and those sites itself get updated pretty decently...and apart from this srishti.....

it was good to see that all those who had put bloggers names in their web sites have done their vice versa also....
and the comment section..;;close knit communty...

well what I am atrying to prove by all this.....nothing...
think about it...

After a night of laughing over stories about driving in India, I'd like to post a tutorial on driving in India created by this dude who was working with Baan in India. He must have had a very good experience of driving since his observations are the best I've ever come across.

Driving in India

For the benefit of every Tom, Dick and Harry visiting India and daring to drive on Indian roads, I am offering a few hints for survival. They are applicable to every place in India except Bihar, where life outside a vehicle is only marginally safer.

Indian road rules broadly operate within the domain of karma where you do your best, and leave the results to your insurance company.

Hints:
Do we drive on the left or right of the road? The answer is both. Basically you start on the left of the road, unless it is occupied. In that case, go to the right, unless that is also occupied. Then proceed by occupying the next available gap, as in chess.

Just trust your instincts, ascertain the direction, and proceed. Adherence to road rules leads to much misery and occasional fatality.

Most drivers don’t drive, but just aim their vehicles in the intended direction. Don’t you get discouraged or underestimate yourself. Except for a belief in reincarnation, the other drivers are not in any better position.

Don’t stop at pedestrian crossings just because some fool wants to cross the road. You may do so only if you enjoy being bumped in the back. Pedestrians have been strictly instructed to cross only when traffic is moving slowly or had come to a dead stop because some minister is in town. Still some idiot may try to wade across, but then, let us not talk ill of the dead.

Blowing your horn is not a sign of protest as in some countries. We horn to express joy, resentment, frustration, romance and bare lust (two brisk blasts), or, just mobilize a dozing cow in the middle of the bazaar.

Keep informative books in the glove compartment. You may read them during traffic jams, while awaiting the chief minister’s motorcade, or waiting for the rainwaters to recede when overground traffic meets underground drainage.

Night driving on Indian roads can be an exhilarating experience (for those with the mental makeup of Genghis Khan). In a way, it is like playing Russian roulette, because you do not know who amongst the drivers is loaded.

What looks like premature dawn on the horizon turns out to be a truck attempting a speed record. On encountering it, just pull partly into the field adjoining the road until the phenomenon passes. Our roads do not have shoulders, but occasional boulders. Do not blink your lights expecting reciprocation. The only dim thing in the truck is the driver, and the peg of illicit arrack he has had at the last stop, his total cerebral functions add up to little more than a naught.

Truck drivers are the James Bonds of India, and are licensed to kill. Often you may encounter a single powerful beam of light about six feet above the ground. This is not a super motorbike, but a truck approaching you with a single light on, usually the left one. It could be the right one, but never get too close to investigate. You may prove your point posthumously. Of course, all this occurs at night, on the trunk roads.

During the daytime, trucks are more visible, except that the drivers will never show any Signal. (And you must watch for the absent signals; they are a greater threat.) Only, you will often observe that the cleaner that sits next to the driver, will project his hand and wave hysterically. This is definitely not to be construed as a signal for a left turn. The waving is just an expression of physical relief on a hot day.

Occasionally you might see what looks like an UFO with blinking colored lights and weird sounds emanating from within. This is an illuminated bus, full of happy pilgrims singing bhajans. These pilgrims go at breakneck speed, seeking contact with the Almighty, often meeting with success.

Unique to Indian traffic:

Auto Rickshaw (Baby Taxi)The result of a collision between a rickshaw and an automobile, this three-wheeled vehicle works on an external combustion engine that runs on a mixture of kerosene oil and creosote. This triangular vehicle carries iron rods, gas cylinders or passengers three times its weight and dimension, at an unspecified fare.

After careful geometric calculations, children are folded and packed into these auto rickshaws until some children in the periphery are not in contact with the vehicle at all. Then their school bags are pushed into the microscopic gaps all round so those minor collisions with other vehicles on the road cause no permanent damage. Of course, the peripheral children are charged half the fare and also learn Newton’s laws of motion en route to school. Auto-rickshaw drivers follow the road rules depicted in the film Ben Hur, and are licensed to irritate.

Mopeds
The moped looks like an oil tin on wheels and makes noise like an electric shaver. It runs 30 miles on a teaspoon of petrol and travels at break-bottom speed. As the sides of the road are too rough for a ride, the moped drivers tend to drive in the middle of the road; they would rather drive under heavier vehicles instead of around them and are often "mopped" off the tarmac.

Leaning Tower of Passes
Most bus passengers are given free passes and during rush hours, there is absolute mayhem. There are passengers hanging off other passengers, who in turn hang off the railings and the overloaded bus leans dangerously, defying laws of gravity but obeying laws of surface tension. As drivers get paid for overload (so many Rupees per kilogram of passenger), no questions are ever asked. Steer clear of these buses by a width of three passengers.

One-way Street
These boards are put up by traffic people to add jest in their otherwise drab lives. Don’t stick to the literal meaning and proceed in one direction. In metaphysical terms, it means that you cannot proceed in two directions at once. So drive as you like, in reverse throughout, if you are the fussy type. Lest I sound hypercritical, I must add a positive point also. Rash and fast driving in residential areas has been prevented by providing a "speed breaker"; two for each house. This mound, incidentally, covers the water and drainage pipes for that residence and is left untarred for easy identification by the corporation authorities, should they want to recover the pipe for year-end accounting.

If, after all this, you still want to drive in India, have your lessons between 8 pm and 11 am-when the police have gone home. The citizen is then free to enjoy the ‘FREEDOM OF SPEED’ enshrined in our constitution.

Maxim is just a trashy magazine which relies on such stuff to get publicity.. I'm sure they're gloating over all the controversy they've created.I hope we also note how the biggest protests have come, not from India (where we still trash the Mahatma) but from the United States.

Does he deserve this???
Read this article in Sify.com about a US magazine depicting pictures of the Mahatma. He was shown as being kicked and thrown around. I just dont think he deserves it. Such a great person he is, and look at the way a third rate US magazine treats him. This just goes to show the double standars that this country has on peace. they vouch for peace on the one hand, and are war mongers on the other.

Guys, go tothis website and please lodge your protests against such unruly behaviour. I would bet, if any other magazine anywhere in the world were to depict scenes with George "Dubiya" Bush or George Washington or the legendary JFK in a similar manner, the US would certainly have termed that magazine and the country an "axis of evil" and declared war.

Hi Everyone,
As part of the ISO I would like to inform the students only some few new rules being implemented in our university: Student can be part time in the college only in the last semester and will have to graduate the same semester (though there are some loop holes like having asst etc) and the other new rule is that before graduating the student should have the OPT card already !! phew we are go out into the market pretty soon this way!!. Hope you all know about this but just out of concern I wanted this to be posted.

RSS (definition) is an XML-based spec that allows websites to share headlines, "what's new", blog entries, etc. with users without making the users come to their sites.

I suspect, our favourite samachar.com gets the headlines this way. There are lot of client programs that can get the headlines from the websites of your choice to your desktop. One of the free ones is available at http://www.feedreader.com/. Be careful using this software, since it doesn't mask the password entered. Create a new RSS feed and try entering http://slashdot.org/slashdot.rdf to get the headlines from CNN or http://slashdot.org/slashdot.rdf to get the linux specific technical headlines from Slashdot.

More and more news and blog sites are adopting RSS, which will help you to read all the news you need from your desktop. Unfortunately for our blog we need blogspot subsciption to set up an RSS feed. Till then keep reading the srishti blog the good old way.

Slowly and painfully am realizing that it’s not easy to maintain a blog. Even after giving out the write permissions to 3 or 4 ppl, the blog is at a stand still. We need more volunteers. Need help, please respond using the comment box.

So did everyone attend the diwali celebrations? It didn't have the usual "wow" effect, but was pretty good. I think the volunteers did a great job. Cheers to all srishti members who spend time to volunteer for this event. We are proud of you. The main event, the DJ dance-party, the dance-party was good as usual, but the DJ sucked big time. At least that’s what I felt. Loud beats don’t go too well with slow songs. But since our brains weren't working, it didn't matter much.

You guys remember the dedications that went around yesterday? We tried to make our presence felt which didn't get the response we expected. The dedication that we wanted to be executed was "To srishti from srishti......Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap" just like in the budlight ad, so that we could respond with a "wazaaap" in unison. Finally it ended up as "to nair...wazap". Uggg! Out of the 6 or 7 dedication that we send out they picked the one in which it was not clearly written.

What else? How about posting a part-time job for a srishti blogger? Just kidding ... :). Have a great week.

Well the question has been asked. "What is a blog?". To get the defenition (some one actually defines blog..hmmm) Visit this website. By the way all that is in blue are clickable links leading to other websites. Blogs are short for WeB LOGS. Its more like an online journal. Its like any other website.

The srishti blog is mainly for sharing ideas. I should be using the word "share" carefully as most of you might have found out by now that you dont have the rights to add new blogs but just comment on the existing ones. Well it wont remain the same for ever. You could be a blog author for srishti if you are a srishti member and [1] you comment frequently [2] maintain a website of your own [3] maintain a blog of your own. Final decision is left to the administrator. Comment on what you think about this.
